Questions about the Schools:
Many factors influence a school wether it be public or a charter school. Exeter West Greenwich Regional High School is the public school for grades 9-12 in West Greenwich Ri. It is located at 930 Nooseneck Hill Rd.[1] Exeter has been successful in many ways especially in their curriculum standards, student teacher ratio, graduation rate and their special education program.


Curriculum standards. How do they hold up to the national and state standards?
Students attending Exeter High School must take 5 courses or more each semester. Students may take foundational courses, ones that allow personal attention, academic courses, ones that are challenging but not fast-paced, or college preparatory classes, ones that are fast-paced to prepare students. Ambitions students can motivate themselves to take honors or advanced placement classes, the highest leveled course that encourage independence and dedication. Overall, there are courses for all different types of students [2]

Number of people attending, student-teacher ratio
At the Exeter West Greenwich regional high school, there are 524 students and 72 teachers according to data from 2013 to 2014. That makes for a student-teacher ratio of 1:8 when considering all teachers and 1:11 when considering solely classroom teachers. All of these teachers are highly qualified to teach the students.[3]



Graduation rate & testing scores.
At the Exeter West Greenwich Regional High School, the graduation rate is 92% which is a successful rate according to the 2013-2014 data. The state average is only 80.7% so Exeter is above average in that aspect. The dropout rate is 5.1% which is also successful compared to the 8% state drop out rate. 1.5% of students reviewed their GED in comparison to the 2.5% state average. Most people attend school as shown by the 95% attendance rate. Exeter had a mathematics average of 522, a reading average of 537, and a writing average of 516 out of a possible 800 on the SATs.[4]

Special Education program.
Exeter High School spends time to make sure students with special needs succeed. There are programs not only in the high school up until graduation, but all the way from kindergarten as well. Students must be evaluated in the classroom to determine their need and plans are specially designed for each student. School psychologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, behavior specialists, speech therapists, and consulting psychiatrists are all available. There are no additional costs to the families of those students needing the service.[5]

After Investigating students interactions with teachers, there are varying thoughts about the environment. For example, 54.3% of students report that their teachers usually give them clear instructions on how to do their work. 53.5 % of students say that their teachers never let things get out of control while in the classroom. 69.5% say that their teachers keep them interested in class and 75.4% say their teachers inspire them to do their best work. As for student to student interactions, bullying doesn't appear to be high, but 13% of students have been bullied due to their looks while 16.2% of students have been bullied due to their actions or personality. All reports are lower than that of the statewide results which would be a success for the school. [6]
In Conclusion, students that attend Exeter can choose to enroll in whichever level classes they desire due to the wide range of opportunities. In addition, there is a 1:8 student to teacher ratio so students can feel like they have good class sizes and teachers to go to when in need. Exeter's graduation rate is above the state's average so clearly they must be doing something right. Lastly, Exeter looks after students of all different types and caters to their needs. These aspects of Exeter show that it has been successful.
